About Us
THE WORLD IS OUR CLASSROOM
At MEESS Education, we passionately believe that the world itself is our greatest classroom. We strive to inspire people to lift their heads, look around, and truly appreciate the endless lessons and beauty the world has to offer.
In today’s fast-paced society, many have become disconnected from the world around them. Technology and digital experiences often take precedence over real-world interactions and learning. Too often, people turn to social media and the internet to be told what is important and beautiful, rather than lifting their heads and looking at the beauty and inspiration around them. The beauty around us is incredibly enhanced by a little knowledge and appreciation for the Natural world.
Our mission is to rekindle this connection. We aim to foster a deeper appreciation for the landscapes we inhabit, an understanding of where our resources come from, a mindful awareness of how our choices shape the world, and an appreciation for our place int he Universe.
Instead of fearing the decisions of the past, we encourage thoughtful, informed decisions for the future.
Our Humble Beginnings
MEESSE was formed officially in 2025, but it actually started in 2012. It started as an educational engagement concept to help create a connection to the real world for student assignments. Students were given projects and assignments as if they were employees of a, fictitious company. These assignments saw students developing solutions to particular issues in science. It saw the birth of many ideas, concepts and redirections of learning.
The idea evolved over time to become a personal branding to identify teaching materials that were created with a lean towards real-world, environmental, Earth, Space, and Physics concepts. It became an identity of what needed to happen. This became the bedrock for MEESSE. After well over a decade of developing and collecting resources, lessons, giving professional development to new and experienced teachers, and talking to educators from all levels of education.
Our first Audience was Teachers, so that was where MEESSE starting aiming its focus.
FOR TEACHERS
The Ontario Science Curriculum is divided into four strands: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth and Space Science. While many educators feel confident teaching Biology and Chemistry, the Earth and Space Science strand is often less familiar. We believe this shouldn’t be the case. These topics are becoming increasingly crucial as our world becomes more interconnected and reliant on technology, and materials extracted from the ground.
Looking at what we were already offering Teachers in our immediate vicinity, was where we decided to direct our programing.
Here’s how we have helped and are committing to continue moving forward:
- Workshops & Presentations: Interactive sessions packed with hands-on activities to spark curiosity and engagement.
- Classroom Bins: Ready-to-use kits filled with lesson plans, handouts, and all the materials needed for a week’s worth of activities. These bins are designed to make teaching easy, fun, and impactful.
- Resource Ideas: Explore our curated resources for fresh activity and lesson ideas.
- Custom Support: Looking for something specific? Reach out! We have a wealth of additional ideas, resources, and connections that can be tailored to your needs.
As this continued to take shape, we realized that there were other groups out there that needed just as much help. Those home-schooling their children were doing it with limited resources. Our next audience was aimed at them.
Home Schooling
Home Schooling takes a lot of hard work and dedication, that is what homeschooling parents tend to have in ample supply. What is in shorter supply are resources to support their children’s education. In schools, departments tend to have a collection of materials to support conducting a hands-on experiential education. These are often collected over time by donations to the school, the purchase by years of dedicated teachers, and even the limited budget that schools have to operate. With homeschooling there is less of the collected materials to engage the students. We saw what we had done for teachers with our Classroom Bins and figured why not offer something similar to those Home-schooling.
Families, Parents, & Students
Parents strive to support their children. This is aparent by the lengths we go to encourage them and help them find their path. When they struggle, they need help. That is why we decided to extend the offer for short term tutoring. While developing these offers, we also decided to offer a party service to support parents in educating their kids while entertaining them.
Is your child fascinated by rocks, minerals, fossils, astronomy, or other Earth and space sciences? Nurture their curiosity with our support! We’re developing a variety of exciting programs designed to fuel their passion. Keep an eye out for upcoming opportunities, including themed birthday parties, special events, day camps, and evening sessions. Interested?
Community Members and Community Groups
MEESSE is not just about educating children in their youth, but also about educating “children” of all ages. If you have an interest in learning more about the local area, rocks, minerals, resource use, astronomy and are looking for support for your learning we are also here for you.
Look out for upcoming information about community events, activities and opportunities.
If you have a group (service group, Scout/Guides, group of Friends) that would like a presentation, workshop, we encourage you to look through our already prepared presentations in the Teacher and Homeschool sections, as they can be easily modified to suit any groups, or even develop one for your interests. Perhaps you would like to add a little educational component to a party, we have done that. MEESSE is about gaining an appreciation with a positive experience. As an amateur astronomer with a focus on outreach and education, we do have a collection of astronomy equipment that we can offer for rent should you be interested in dipping your toe into the world of astronomy without the commitment of buying a telescope of your own.
